The Parish of St. Paul, Rusland is a
small country parish in breathtaking scenery. Since 2003
it has been part of the Benefice of
Hawkshead with Low Wray and Sawrey and Rusland and
Satterthwaite, and enjoys an especially close
relationship with All Saints, Satterthwaite, sharing all social events. The
church building is listed and lies on a rocky outcrop in
the midst of the parish's scattered community. The church
is an important part of this communty, a position it
works hard to maintain. The community itself is very
active, even though the houses in the parish are
scattered, with the only collections of dwellings being
at Rusland Cross, Crosslands and Thwaite Moss.
The church is kept open for visitors at all times, who
find it a place of peace and tranquillity. We hope it is
also a place where people sense the presence of God.
We use Common Worship Order one with traditional
language for our Eucharists, as well as Book of Common
Prayer Evensong twice a month (see service
times). Anybody coming to any of our services can be
ensured of a warm welcome.
There is much more up-to-date local information in The Rusland and Satterthwaite Newsletter, to which the church
contributes.
