St
Petersburg Blagovest Ensemble Concert - Hawkshead Parish Church,
7.30pm on 3rd September. Retiring Collection
It is a great pleasure to welcome back the wonderful
Blagovest Ensemble from St. Petersburg. In 2007 they gave a
sensational concert which ended in a long standing ovation. After
a number of problems with visas, it is great that they are coming
again for a concert at 7.30pm on 3rd September. The
Ensemble are bass, baritone, tenor, mezzo-soprano and soprano,
conducted by Olga Kozlova who also sings second soprano.Russia's
sacred choral music, much of it penned by her greatest composers,
was banned under Soviet rule. Now this music is once again
resounding through the churches and halls of Europe. Blagovest's
voices are always unaccompanied. Russians feel passionately about
their folk music, reflecting as it does their values of courage,
love, faithfulness, as well as a self-mocking humour that is
charmingly British!
